FAQ

Will this work in my BMW?

  • Have a look at the compatibilitylist and contact us when in doubt.

  • All videos were made using the MKIII navigation computer.

I read about new and old generation radios. What about that?

  • Flat pins, round pins. Doesn't matter to the CP600BMW. As long as your radio can control a changer, you're set. Only older models with a P-changer are not plug-'n-play.

That .ini file, isn't that really complicated?

  • If you can make and copy MP3 files, you can work with the .ini file. It's just a small text file with a few commands to adjust the behaviour of the CP600BMW to your car and wishes. Normally you do this once and never again.

I think my car misses a cable!

  • If you have a changer, you're set.

  • No changer? Remove the liner and look for a cable, you may have one pre-installed as this was an option at the time.

  • Have DSP and a coax cable? Use it, it connects directly to the CP600BMW

  • DSP but no coax? No problem, use the other one (6 pin block)

  • DSP but no coax but in doubt whether to get a coax cable? Possible. Theoretically it gives better sound but in practice it makes little difference, which is why BMW decided not to use the coax route any more. The CP accepts either one, nothing needs to be changed.

We're from a forum and a bunch of people want to join the group-buy, is this possible?

  • Sure, contact us and we'll figure something out.

I read about a lot of trouble with this device, is it that bad?

  • Check the dates, most postings are from the beta test period and mainly from those with problems. The majority had no problems at all.

  • The development was done semi-public, meaning that more of the problems were openly discussed. Also meaning that more critical eyes were looking, thus pushing for a better product in the end.

So I just dump my music collection onto the disc and that's it?

  • Almost: you'll need to dump it into one of six subfolders representing the 6 CD's in the original changer. You can create subfolders and then you're only limited by the capacity of the card. MP3 is mostly used. AAC/WAV for a great part. WMA will not work.

Where does this come from, China?

  • No, Germany. From Maintronic GmbH to be precise. All components are high quality, no just-as-good-well-almost parts here!

  • Something about the care for quality: the device switches to sleep mode and wakes up along with the car. Minimal data traffic is generated for minimal disruption and diagnosissoftware is not influenced by this device.

What guarantee do I get?

  • Normal function as a CD changer replacement: 2 jaar within Europe. Abroad: none officially. We will help you where we can but legally: none. Wrong usage, waterdamage, dirt in the SD card slot are all excluded from guarantee.

Is this thing safe?

  • Technically: yes. It also has the CE mark to prove that.

  • Of course, all rules and informations concerning driving and controling a device is still valid. As you can use the CP600BMW in the same way as your CD changer: same caution is needed.

When is the new software version available?

  • No idea. But when we do: you'll know it too!

  • By saving a small file onto the SD card and restarting the CP600BMW, you can upgrade the firmware easily. If you register at least your email address, we'll send you this software as soon as we can.

My radio is broken / I want a Euro-spec radio, can you fix /get me one?

  • Probably yes, but postage may be a bit of a hurdle. Just contact us, we'll figure something out.

Can I view video's too?

  • No, we've got other devices for that. However, DVB-T as it is used in Germany may not be the same in your country. So in that case you'd be limited to the USB stick/disk for playing movies. In Stereo (!) see here.
